MINI SPLURGE: UNE Beauty nail polish There’s a long list of things to avoid when you’re pregnant, and it includes most of life’s pleasures: wine, runny cheese, saunas, blond hair.

UNE polishDepending on who you ask, it also includes nail polish. I’ve tried to strike a balance between cautious and sane these last seven months, and decided my favorite Chanel nail polish would stay on the roster… until I came across natural cosmetics line UNE Beauty. Available at ABC, the brand’s 3-in-1 polish includes a base coat, color, top coat, and a brush wide enough to make at-home manicures a breeze (more so if you stick to neutral shades). Natural ingredients replace questionable predecessors like phthalate, formaldehyde and toluene, without sacrificing quality – I’m currently on my fifth day chip-free. I convinced myself I needed this for the baby, but I’m a convert. Price: LL12,000 Getting there: Take a service to Sassine Square in Achrafieh. With your back towards Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, walk straight ahead. ABC mall will be in front of you, right after FedEx/Kinko’s.

Elizabeth Taylor kaftan 2

MODERATE SPLURGE: Nursing kaftan Like Elizabeth Taylor before her, Rachel Zoe relied on kaftans to make weight gain look like a fashion statement. Now you can do the same: Etsy seller Ipadhya at FabFabricsForU designs incredibly soft kaftans that button up the bodice for easy breastfeeding, and she ships to Lebanon. The prices are reasonable but with shipping and customs fees, expect to pay double. It’s worth it, though – I’m counting down the days until it’s warm enough to retire the maternity jeans and live in mine. Price: $36 + approx. $35 in shipping/customs fees

MAJOR SPLURGE: G Spa membership By far one of the best indulgences of my pregnancy thus far has been a G Spa pool membership. Their water aerobics classes offer a low-impact workout, and if you’re having trouble sleeping, the pool is open for free swim from 8:00am-10:00pm every day. Walk the length a few dozen times, ride the underwater bikes, or just float to relieve your aching hips. Price: $150/month; $800/6 months; $1,250/year Getting there: Take a service to Park Tower Suites in Achrafieh, near Rizk Hospital. The spa is in the hotel.   What were your best pregnancy splurges? Share them in the comments and give me another reason to treat myself.
